Giant Wind Dam To Utilize Sails

wind_dam.jpg

The first of its kind, British architects from Chetwood Associates has designed a large wind dam using a 75 meter sail to provide renewable power.

Russia has placed an order of £2.5 million for the wind dam to be situated over a very windy gorge at Lake Lagoda in Northwestern Russia. High winds would be captured by the surface-bound sail and funneled down to a turbine.

Data on exactly how much electricity the wind dam would produce has not yet been released or how much wind speed it can withstand. Although it is encouraging sign to see more building projects turning to green solutions.

  1. looks a very impressive design and would love see it in action

  2. Great outside-the-box thinking. I would like to see how well the Russian version does once it’s completed.
